In an effort to streamline operations, effective January 18 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reorganized its Office of Solid Waste and renamed it as the Office of Resource Conservation and Recovery. The renaming is intended to demonstrate the scope of responsibility delegated to EPA under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act. The six former Office of Solid Waste divisions have been consolidated into three divisions, now known as the Materials Recovery and Waste Management Division, Resource Conservation and Sustainability Division, and the Program Implementation and Information Division.

Additional information on the reorganization, including an organizational chart, may be found at http://epa.gov/epawaste/basicinfo.htm.
