MGKF founding partner Joseph Manko, who recently accepted appointments to the City of Philadelphia Zoning Board of Adjustment and the Fairmount Park Commission, has also assisted new Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter in establishing environmental policy priorities for the incoming administration. Manko reports: "As I begin to organize Mayor Nutter's task force on sustainability, I look forward to implementing his promise to make Philadelphia 'green' and energy efficient. This was one of the Mayor's campaign themes and he will be bringing on board a Director of Sustainability and a Recycling Coordinator to work with our task force. Major components of this program will be developing Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design ("LEED")-certified buildings, hosting environmental entrepreneurial industries, increasing recycling from its current 5-7% level to 25%, procuring renewable foils on energy efficient materials, and promoting green infrastructure to ensure its success. Our efforts will include code revision and education. Our firm can play its part in making our practice even more sustainable and counseling our clients to do so, as well."
